The basics
What Is a Custom Balloon Installation?
Overhead, room-spanning, shaped like something or carrying a logo: that's an installation.
A custom balloon installation is designed for a single space and assembled where the event happens, and it's usually bigger or more engineered than an arch, a garland or a column. Picture a ceiling of balloons floating over a dance floor, a cloud hanging above the sweetheart table, a 30-foot arch over a new storefront, a giant mosaic number, a walk-through tunnel or a logo built from balloons. This is the point where balloon decor turns into balloon art.
Since each one is made for a particular room, an installation begins with measurements and a design rather than a menu. It's the right fit when the space is large, the guest list is important or you want something nobody has seen at the last ten parties. For standard pieces, take a look at our balloon arches, garlands, walls, columns and backdrops.
What we install
Types of Custom Balloon Installations
These are the builds Austin venues, companies and hosts ask about most.
Balloon ceilings
A balloon ceiling takes over the space above the guests. It might be helium balloons pressed against the ceiling with ribbons trailing down, air-filled balloons hung upside down at staggered heights, or garlands looped from wall to wall. It turns a plain fellowship hall, school gym or barn into a real event room, and it's a favorite for proms, quinceañeras, weddings and holiday parties.
Hanging balloons, canopies and chandeliers
Garlands suspended over a long table, a balloon canopy above a dance floor or inside a tent, and balloons wrapped around a venue's own chandelier (or a chandelier built on a hoop) put the decor at eye level and above without using any floor space.
Balloon clouds
A balloon cloud is a soft, puffy mass of white and clear balloons, sometimes with a few pastel or metallic accents, hung over a table or used behind one. Baby showers, cloud nine birthdays and dreamy wedding receptions use them most.
Balloon drops
A balloon drop lets hundreds of balloons fall from a net or bag overhead at exactly the right moment: midnight on New Year's Eve, a gender reveal, the couple's entrance, the last song of prom or a product reveal. The drop is rigged before guests arrive and released with a pull cord by one of our team or someone you choose.
Balloon sculptures and balloon art
Big balloon sculptures take a shape you'd recognize: an oversized number, a guitar, a cactus, a cake, a rocket, a mascot or a company logo. Balloon art for galleries, schools and brand events can be life-size or larger.
Balloon trees, palm trees and topiaries
Balloon palm trees for pool parties and luaus, topiaries for formal events and balloon Christmas trees for lobbies and office parties all stand on their own, a lot like balloon columns with a shape on top.
Balloon tunnels
A balloon tunnel is a row of arches placed close together for guests to walk through. It makes a memorable wedding entrance, a school hallway that feels like an event, a fun-run finish line or the front door of a new business.
Balloon mosaics, number towers and marquee letters
A balloon mosaic is a number, letter or shape frame packed with small balloons, almost like pixels. Mosaic numbers and letters spell out an age, an initial or a graduating class, and light-up marquee letters wrapped in balloons add a glow. Birthday and graduation hosts love both.
Balloon wreaths and giant balloons
A balloon wreath frames a front door or a welcome sign. Giant balloons, 36 inches and bigger and often filled with confetti, create big moments at gender reveals, proposals and photo shoots.

Process
How a Custom Installation Comes Together
Larger builds take a little more planning. This is how it goes.
- 1
Share the idea
Send the event, date, venue and the look you're after. Inspiration photos, a mood board or brand guidelines all help.
- 2
Map the space
We confirm the room's size, ceiling height, rigging points, power, load-in times and house rules, either in person or from your photos and measurements.
- 3
Design and quote
You get a design and a written quote. Large builds are priced by scope rather than by the foot.
- 4
Build day
We arrive inside the venue's load-in window, build everything on-site and walk through it with you before the doors open.
- 5
Teardown
We strike the install at the end of the night or the next morning, whichever the venue requires.
Venue rules worth asking about early: downtown hotels usually assign loading-dock times and freight elevators and want a vendor certificate of insurance on file. Many venues limit helium tanks, ban tape on walls and won't allow anything hung from the ceiling without sign-off. Open-air Hill Country pavilions often have no rigging points at all, which changes how a ceiling or cloud gets built. We sort all of this out before quoting, so build day goes smoothly.
Pricing
How Much Do Balloon Installations Cost in Austin?
Custom installations start at $450 and grow with the size and complexity of the build.
| Installation | Starting at |
|---|---|
| Balloon mosaic number or letter, 3 ft | $225 |
| Balloon mosaic number or letter, 5 ft | $375 |
| Custom balloon installation | $450 |
| Marquee letter or number rental | $50 each |
| Ceilings, drops, tunnels and sculptures | Custom quote |
Large builds are quoted after we measure the space. Venue load-in rules, Hill Country travel and late-night strikes can add to the total.
How much do people charge for balloon decor on this scale? The price follows the area or length covered, how many balloons and what sizes, rigging and lift needs (ceiling height is a big one), helium, labor hours, overnight or after-hours load-in, insurance paperwork and whether the strike happens the same night. Send us your venue and ceiling height and we'll scope it properly.

Timing
How Far Ahead to Book a Balloon Installation
Give a large installation three to six weeks.
Smaller builds, like a mosaic number or a home balloon drop, can often be booked one to two weeks ahead. Ceilings, tunnels, sculptures and anything at a hotel or event venue need three to six weeks for design, approvals and ordering custom colors. In Austin, March brand-activation season, spring prom, late-May graduations, October festival weekends, the December holidays and New Year's Eve book up first.

Questions
Custom Balloon Installations in Austin: FAQ
How much do people charge for balloon decor?
Our custom balloon installations start at $450, mosaic numbers at $225 and marquee letters at $50 each. Ceilings, drops, tunnels and sculptures are quoted per project based on size, rigging and labor.
What is a balloon ceiling?
Balloons filling the space overhead: helium balloons floating against the ceiling with ribbons hanging down, air-filled balloons hung at different heights, or garlands swagged across the room.
What is a balloon drop?
Hundreds of balloons released from a net or bag overhead at a planned moment, such as a New Year's countdown, a gender reveal, a grand entrance or a send-off.
How many balloons are needed for a balloon drop?
Around 100–250 for a home or small room, and 500–1,500 or more for a dance floor or ballroom. The drop area and the ceiling height decide the count.
What is a balloon mosaic?
A number, letter or shape frame filled with small balloons in a pattern, like a picture made of pixels. They're popular for birthdays, graduations and anniversaries.
How long do ceiling balloons last?
Helium ceiling balloons look their best for about 8–12 hours. Air-filled hanging installs last several days indoors.
How far in advance should I book a balloon installation?
Three to six weeks for ceilings, tunnels, sculptures and venue installs, and one to two weeks for smaller pieces like a mosaic number or a home balloon drop.
Do venues allow balloon installations?
Most do, with conditions. Venues often require vendor liability insurance, set load-in and teardown times, and may restrict helium, tape and anything hung from the ceiling. We confirm the rules before we quote.
What is balloon art?
Large, designed pieces made from balloons, like sculptures, giant numbers, logos, characters and installations. It's a different craft from the twisted balloon animals made at kids' parties.
